Damian as Soldier

Band of Brothers was the breakthrough for Damian Lewis and a huge success
and almost ten years later another breakthrough catapulted Damian Lewis
into new heights and got him an A  lister`s name.

and both times it was a soldier who made him a household name.
Winters and Brody couldn’t be more different but both times Damian Lewis
gave a whole nation a face.
He made Winters known all over the world and he explained the modern world that
even a War is far away its still our War.
Winters a hero and Brody a broken hero.

Maybe both men never wanted to be heroes but no asked them, no one asking young
boys and men if they want to fight for a nation and that’s exactly what Damian Lewis
shows in his performances in both pieces.

Just with the slight difference that Winters was a real men and a real hero.
Brody was “just” a character invented by a scriptwriter and performed by an actor.
But Damian Lewis made us aware that there are thousands of Brody`s outside.
Men who come back from War incapable to find a place in society or in the family.

they have marriage problems a fact you hardly read about but a fact Damian
made us aware in a brilliantly disturbing way and even here in Germany newspapers and audience
started to talk about after the unsettling scenes from Homeland`s season two.

Damian Lewis a well-educated Brit with perfect Gentleman’s attitude and behaviour brought
the world two men of War who couldn’t be more different but he gave them a face
and moreover a soul and reached our hearts. Thank you

Emma about the King.-) Wolf Hall on PBS memory piece

So last night after spending the evening with my husband for his birthday and at 9pm looking at my watch and thinking “why today did it have to be his birthday” , I got home at 11.15pm and just had to watch my pre-recorded wolf  hall which was on over 2 hours earlier – like a child I couldn’t wait another day to see it, and boy was I glad I waited up for another hour to feed my anticipated addiction.

As the credits began and the music started the hairs on my arm began to move and I was rooted to the spot.  I don’t want to give too much away for people in the US who are still to wait for a few months to see it, but the acting, the set and the sheer brilliance was just wonderful.  As a child and now adult I have to admit that I was never really into period dramas – however over the last 24 months Damian Lewis has changed my perception of this and since Forstye Saga I have been turned (not in a Brody way though) Mark Rylance plays Thomas Cromwell brilliantly and the cast is just fabulous, even down to the children.
I spoke to a friend today who was rooted to the spot when the Tudors were on television a while back and she said to me “ this is going to be a fantastic 6 weeks” and then clutching my cup of tea and dunking a biscuit the wait was over, Henry made his debut appearance on my screen, dressed in red with his floppy black hat and his sneering grin, there stood in the palace gardens, Damian Lewis, portraying King Henry 8th

At first I had the urge to shout “whohoo” but then realised at 12am and kids asleep probably best just to keep it to my big smile and watch the last 5 minutes of what promises to be one of the best period dramas on the BBC in a very long time – BBC 2 have already said that they have not had TV ratings on a show that high in over a decade – so whether it’s down to a fantastic adaptation, or a great director or is it the fact that Damian Lewis has been cast into a magnificent British drama – whatever the reason I know I will be infront of my TV every Wednesday at 9pm for the next 6 weeks.

more reviews follow and of course you will read it every week here on DFI

We welcome a guest Blogger today!!

I am happy to welcome a guest blogger today....Grace Babb tells you all about
Phineas and Ferb and Damian`s guest attendance a couple of years ago.
we are happy and proud to have you Grace and thanks for your report!!

My name is Grace I am 11 and my Mum Emma works hard to make the Damian Lewis fan blog great with her great friend Sabrina.  I used to watch Phineas and Ferb a lot when I was younger and when my Mum told me that Damian Lewis was the voice of Agent Double 0-0, she asked if I would like to write something about it - so here goes.  I did a bit of research and watched it again - hope you enjoy it as its the first time I have written anything on a blog - even though everything Damian lewis has been in aside from this is a bit grown up for me!

So Phineas and Ferb are two kids who have a sister called Candice who’s nerves they constantly get on, a bit like my little sister Dani, but they also have a bit of a pet and a friend called Perry the platypus who is a a spy but they boys are unaware of this. They are always getting up to secret things and she is always trying to get them into trouble but never succeeds!

Agent Double 0-0 is a Spy who has come from London in the UK and is set to help Perry the Platypus defeat the evil Dr Doofenshmitz.  He is know to be very skilled as a spy and is meant to be a little bit like James Bond - someone my Mum thinks Damian Lewis would be good at - or so she thinks, ….. anyway he doesn’t really like working with a platypus and is taken aback by the lack of information he is given by Major Monogram (who Perry works for) to help them find the evil doctor.

Agent Double 0-0 is seen wearing a tuxedo and watch that has a built-in laser like James Bond.

  • Double 0-0 appears to be based on  Agent Double 0-7 & My mum said that the people of the show have tried to make him look like Sean Connery (not sure who he is??)
  • On the episode "its about time", when Doofenshmirtz traps someone, Agent Double 0-0 is seen captured.
  • In "Live and Let Drive" Agent Double 0-0 is shown to hate tic-tac-toe since he's very bad at it, as Doofenshmirtz manages to beat him on it several times.
The Voice of Damian Lewis has been in 1 Episode although the character is in three episodes - Live and Let Drive, Its All about time and Its Elememtry My Dear Stacey.  The last one is the only speaking part that the Character has.

Emma and the Blog

Why are you a Damian Lewis Fan and why you doing this Blog?

I am a fan of Damian for many many reasons, I became a fan after watching Homeland and then Life, followed by the Forsyte Saga, and from there Watching Kene, after seeing him as so many different roles, I realised what an incredible actor he is and wanted more,  I wanted to be more than a fan and once I met Sabrina at Times Talks back in May, she was the one who gave me the opportunity to be more than just a fan and the reason I do the blog is so that I can write, as I wanted to be a journalist long ago, before marriage and babies, now I have my chance to write about a fabulous actor.

tell us about the Pros and Cons of Blogging?
The pro of blogging for me is getting to write interesting pieces for the blog, doing research, having to google Damian Day and night so as not to miss anything and being part of such a special family.  My one Con is that I have to learn how to update the blog myself and not just submit my work to poor Sabrina to do it .

What is your actual goal for DFI ?
My goal for Dfi is to make it a household name, the more popular Damian is the more people will want to read about it - I would like the blog to become the one stop shop for Damian Lewis news

Who is your favourite Damian character and why?
Ooooooo that is such a hard question, I have a huge soft spot for Charlie Crews, but I do love a more natural Damian where he is talking with his British accent and is not overly made up - I have to say I love Milo and now we both share the same profession - Baker!!!
Which of the new projects are you looking forward most?
I cannot wait for Wolf Hall, but the fact he is back on the London Stage in May that has to be the best news of the year for me
describe yourself and Damian Lewis in six adjectives.  - Happy, Positive, Content, Friendly, Worldly and Trusting

A dream character that isn’t a dream anymore

Its half an hour ago that I agreed with Bahar not to write about a dream character
because I am busy but now its after midnight and the blog didn’t leave me as usual…

so Prof. Brody when you read this you will remind that special night on 23/11/14(thank you)
ok so actually I couldn’t write about my dream character because we start the blog a year too late for that…because my dream character all those years were surprise surprise Henry VIII.

I always dreamt he would take a role in a brilliant production and being a fabulous King.
No not because of his read hair but because Damian Lewis is able to make evil understandable.

Soames Brody…he shows us always there is more under the surface and that it would be too easy
To just say a certain person is good or bad because it’s never that easy.

And another reason for me was I was sure Damian Lewis could show Henry`s charisma
which I am sure he had and he is always describe that way a man who wanted to be loved by his
empire and who was able to sit with farmers other kings and women on a table and
each of them found him appealing for completely different reasons.

And even if I admit that I am crazy about Wolf Hall so crazy that I did a little but loud enough
scream during times talks, the first time in my life .so embarrassing in the personal recap but hey I
missed a good scream during teenage time so I had to catch up.lol

but really, I can see even in those pics we saw that I will be in love with his Henry because
it’s the charismatic but probably a bit lunatic man I was talking about so thanks to BBC and
Damian Lewis my dream character came true and I should apologize in advance
For overloading the blog with Wolf Hall stuff once it will be broadcasted, please don’t leave lol
We will enjoy the History time here with great stuff and with actors like Rylance and Lewis
We can’t do wrong.

But first enjoy Prof.piece about her dreaming character coming so soon

Tea Time Events – The Launch

Emma about her business launch..enjoy

Tea Time Events – The Launch

On November 7th saw the launch of my new business Tea Time Events, a  pop up vintage tea party company, who bring the complete party to your door.  We had a tremendously good reaction from all the people who were invited.  The launch took place at The Aldenham Golf Club.  I spent the entire day before baking cakes and scones.  I chose my favourite cakes to have on the day, Victoria Sponge, Carrot Cake, Coffee and Walnut Cake, Lemon Drizzle Cake and Cherry loaf.

My mum who is the creative designer of the team and puts the tables together to look incredible had 4 tables to work with, she did chic black and white, classic vintage pink, antique and white/ivory.  Once the food was put out the tables looked beautiful and I was so proud of what we had both achieved.  I read a short speech thanking the people who were there to take the time to come, and then tea was served.  We had local press there and we have had some articles in the local magazines too.  So far several parties have been booked for next year and we are so excited.  It is wonderful having a company of my own and even better that I am doing it with my best friend, my Mum x

please notice: go and see the website and get yourself an unforgettable tea time!!
