Updates..updates!!

New Queen of the Desert pictures and all about the upcoming movie on damian-lewis.com NOW!

and here comes the answer....

The film charts the shifting power between a boss and his secretary as their careers rise and fall in the rapidly changing workplace of 1980s and 1990s Britain. Friends and Crocodiles stars Damian Lewis, Jodhi May and Robert Lindsay with an ensemble cast that includes Patrick Malahide and Eddie Marsan

Damian Lewis plays Paul, a Gatsby -like figure and inspirational entrepreneur. He is a host of fabulous parties, a "collector" of interesting people, a visionary with dreams of new urban landscapes, and keeper of a pet crocodile. Jodhi May plays Lizzie, who is persuaded by Paul to become his secretary and bring some order to his creative chaos. Once at Paul's magnificent house, Lizzie's world expands as she meets artists, historians and politicians.

The drama was loosely linked to a second Poliakoff piece, Gideons Daughter,  broadcast the following month. Although the links were more thematic than narrative, the character of Sneath (Lindsay) reappeared in Gideon's Daughter, acting as the narrator.

Damian Lewis interview extracts...

When Damian Lewis was in his second year of drama-school, he and two fellow-students took the boat to Amsterdam.
Lewis (laughing): "Guess what we did there ... I still remember on the way over there we were sitting all three on deck in the middle of the night gazing at the stars and we shouted in a romantic way that we were the new generation of actors and we were going to change everything, stuff like that.

I would like to say that that really happened, but I think it didn't quite go that way. ..."

He is self-confident, sexy and certainly not afraid of Hollywood but doesn't want to be "sold as the newest sportscar!" He refused a nice role in Black Hawk Down in favour of The Forsyte Saga.

For an actor it is always fun to play the bad guy. Was this also the case? "Soames has something petty and ugly, something I could only shake of with some alcohol at the end of the day.

But I didn't hate him, if I did I couldn't have played him. In the book he is a complex personality; in the BBC-series from 1967 he was evil and Irene was only the victim. We wanted to show some more sides to him. Even if no one likes Soames -- he is a bastard, a racist, a sexist, a snob -- then still you should be able to understand his obsession for that woman and how it destroys his life."

Emma's Highlight....Homeland in addition to Billions:-) memories..

Homeland – Season 1 episode 7
The Weekend

I have watched Homeland season 1 and 2 around 4/5 times now and season 3 twice.  Out of every season I have several favourite episodes but always go back to “The Weekend” which is season 1 episode 7.

In this episode we see Carrie and Brody spend the weekend together.  After Brody takes his polygraph test at Langley and passes with flying colours, which Carrie cannot get her head round after the question she had asked “have you ever cheated on your wife”, knowing he has, with her, he says no and the polygraph does not flinch.  As Carrie leaves Langley Brody stops in the car and asks her to get in, they drive for a while and after a close shave with a Nazi in a bar they drive, drunk to her family cabin in the forest.

I love this episode for two reasons, the first is we see Carrie and Brody for who they are, two people lost and no one understands them anymore except they get each other, they share intimate conversations and moments  together about being away from home, watching people they were once close to be killed, and people back home don’t really know them anymore.  And then we see them after a whole weekend loose the trust when Carrie confronts Brody about being a terrorist.  The sudden loss of trust is almost upsetting, when watching it you want so badly for them to be together that you can feel her pain when she truly believes she has screwed up and got Tom Walker mixed up with Brody being the American prisoner of war who was turned.  After a good interrogation outside the cabin, close to a shot gun, and after admitting he did know Abu Nazir and had turned to the Muslim faith,  Brody gets up and drives away from Carrie, leaving her all alone in the woods.  Alone once again with no answers that make sense and no Brody.

Quiz time...the answer

Damian Lewis stared in the 2008 film the escapist

The Escapiest
Frank Perry (Cox, in a role written specifically for him) is a lifer and has long accepted that hell never see the outside again. A solid and phlegmatic character, he holds his own but neither attracts nor creates any trouble.

Grief is far more likely to be started by the psychotic and drug-addled Tony (Macintosh), brother to the ruthless head con Rizza (Lewis, who reportedly based his character's mannerisms on a mixture of Tony Blair and Chris Eubank).

However, when Frank receives a rare letter telling him that his cherished daughter is near death following an overdose, he starts to think about escaping, and fast. Hes got a plan and he needs help. Soon a mismatched crew of all the talents comes together, with Lenny Drake (Fiennes), Brodie (Cunningham), Viv Batista (Jorge) and Cox's new cellmate James Lacey (Cooper) each pitching in.

Emma and American Buffalo

So its now almost 3 weeks since American Buffalo shut its tatty doors of the junk shop that was owned by Don Dubrow. I already miss the characters Don, Bob and of course Teach.  Before American Buffalo I have to be honest that although I have seen Damian Lewis in pretty much every TV show and film he has don,  this was the very first time I have seen him live on stage acting, and I have to say I was blown away.  Damian Lewis is an amazing actor, no I have not just stated the obvious, I am merely confirming what we all know!

But on stage he is sensational, John Goodman and Tom Sturidge were also great in the play, but when Damian performed it was like the whole audience were captivated by him.  Teach is a great character and I don’t think anyone else would be good for that role.

American Buffalo has been a large part of my life this year, when I booked the tickets with my partner in crime Sabrina back in December (I think) I had no idea back then how much a part of my life the Damian lewis fan blog is, how big the site has become and of course how lucky I am to have such an amazing friend like Sabrina to share this great journey with.  I am so excited about seeing Damian on stage again and after Billions I hope we don't have to wait too long…...

Bobby Axelrod

Billions pilot remember the day we heard the news

Damian Lewis is returning to Showtime and he's bringing Paul Giamatti with him.

Homeland alum Lewis and Oscar-nominated Giamatti have been tapped to star in Showtime's drama pilot Billions, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Billions is a fictional drama that takes a forensic look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures — the hard-charging, whip-smart U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti), and the brilliant, ambitious hedge-fund king, Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Lewis).

Read more Showtime Orders Drama Pilot From New York Times' Andrew Ross Sorkin Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Divergent, Limitless) will direct the pilot, which will film in New York in early 2015.

Billions is written and executive produced by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Squawk Box's Andrew Ross Sorkin, and was picked up to pilot in March.

The role marks a return to the premium cable network for Lewis, who won a Golden Globe and Emmy for his portrayal of Nicholas Brody on Showtime's Emmy-winning drama Homeland. His credits include Band of Brothers and PBS' upcoming Wolf Hall. The casting comes after Showtime president David Nevins fought hard to keep Lewis' Brody on Homeland after season one when the character was originally envisioned as having a shorter run on the series. He's repped by UTA, Markham Froggatt and Jackoway Tyerman.

Damian as Soldier

Band of Brothers was the breakthrough for Damian Lewis and a huge success
and almost ten years later another breakthrough catapulted Damian Lewis
into new heights and got him an A  lister`s name.

and both times it was a soldier who made him a household name.
Winters and Brody couldn’t be more different but both times Damian Lewis
gave a whole nation a face.
He made Winters known all over the world and he explained the modern world that
even a War is far away its still our War.
Winters a hero and Brody a broken hero.

Maybe both men never wanted to be heroes but no asked them, no one asking young
boys and men if they want to fight for a nation and that’s exactly what Damian Lewis
shows in his performances in both pieces.

Just with the slight difference that Winters was a real men and a real hero.
Brody was “just” a character invented by a scriptwriter and performed by an actor.
But Damian Lewis made us aware that there are thousands of Brody`s outside.
Men who come back from War incapable to find a place in society or in the family.

they have marriage problems a fact you hardly read about but a fact Damian
made us aware in a brilliantly disturbing way and even here in Germany newspapers and audience
started to talk about after the unsettling scenes from Homeland`s season two.

Damian Lewis a well-educated Brit with perfect Gentleman’s attitude and behaviour brought
the world two men of War who couldn’t be more different but he gave them a face
and moreover a soul and reached our hearts. Thank you

Emma is back...and talks:-)

So after a year of back pain I finally went into hospital on Friday to have a Microdisectomy.  The lead up to the operation was a fun few weeks – and the highlight of the whole week prior was being invited into the green room at the end of American Buffalo with my partner in crime Sabrina.  It was an absolute honour to meet Damian after doing so much work on the site and blog and great to have some time to talk to him and have some photos taken too – he introduced us to his friend before going out for dinner for a friend’s birthday that night.  I think Damian may be the one person who I did not tell about the agony of my back! However my dear faithful friend Sabrina has never actually seen me in no pain…..

My day began early on Friday when I had to get to hospital for 7am, I was quickly admitted and taken to theatre in some fetching DVT socks by 8am, and all I recall is the anethatist saying to me as my eyes began to get drowsy you can have a long sleep what are you going to dream about – and was surprised that my reply was anything with Damain Lewis in it!!!!! (won’t be telling the husband that LOL)

However I would like to personally thank Damian, for making such great things for me to watch during my recovery, I have spent a lot of time getting to know old friends, such as Charlie, Brody, Will and looking forward to seeing my good friend Soams next week! He is making my recovery so much more bareable even when you are dosed up on pain killers!

get well soon Darling and keep the socks:-)

The Column...

Forgive the bastards
In the past I dealt with Bastards forever. If someone played bad games or hurt me I got made a very long time. Then one day I heard that thing called Karma and I thought about it again…a re-check is never a bad thing.

And after the check I decided to forgive the bastards because of love or I found a blessing religion… Not at all!! I did it because of pure egoism.you know to forgive people is incredible good for blood  pressure and believe me it cost you less pimples because being angry and frustrated it bad for your skin. Anger gives you wrinkles and keeping disappointments can be really affected your heart.

But the biggest reason is the only person you really punish with it is yourself.

You sitting in prison of your miserable feelings and your enemies probably enjoy their life in the meantime.

You will ruin your days and the bastards don’t even know about.
What a ridiculous imagination to think about. you feel bad and the bastard feels fine.

So let’s learn how to forgive people and never forget: “God sees everyone” :-)

And think how much great time you get back in the next minute by stopping lamenting about he sort of people we all meet from time to time.

The bastards we all meet in life and some of them hurt us a great deal but to be mad and sad for years only helps doctors and rehabs because it makes us sick and depressed.

Wouldn’t it be much more elegant to smile an honest smile at the guy who hurt you years ago and you meet again by chance in a bar…..with your new and much more attractive partner next to youJ
Believe me, be happy in your life that is a thing your enemies will detest most.

You know what it's like to feel anxious - it's horrible feeling anxious. It's stressful having that feeling, having butterflies in your stomach, even for a day, and you don't sleep at night.

It's certainly true that I was brought up in that British amateur tradition, the one which always held that if you were reasonably good at cricket, knew one or two Latin texts and a few zingy Oscar Wilde quotes for dinner parties, you were pretty much ready to go and run some outpost in Hindustan.
